On July 15, 2019, a new regulation came into force regulating the principles of making fertilizers available on the European Union market. It regards various fertilizer types: organo-mineral, organic, inorganic, soil improvers, growing media, biostimulants, fertilising product blends.
Through the new regulations only such fertilizers and fertilising products that comply with the EU rulings regarding quality and safety can be put onto the EU market.
The main objective being the unification of rules regarding fertilizers made of organic and recycled materials in the EU and adding new ways of their production and selling.
The new rules will apply from 16th of July 2022. The new Regulation is to replace the current one- 2003/2003, however, products that were placed on the market on its terms before 16 July 2022 will still be able to be share on the basis of the rules set out in Chapter V of the Regulation.
Regulation 2019/1009 shall not apply to:
-animal by-products or derivatives, which are subject to requirements of Regulation no 1069/2009, when they have been made avaliable on the market
– plant protection products falling within the scope of Regulation (EC) No 1107/2009.
At the same time Regulation 2019/1009 introduces certain changes to Regulations 1069/2009 and 1107/2009.
